DuPont boosts prices for titanium dioxide in Latin America

WILMINGTON, DE, July 1, 2008 (PRNewswire-FirstCall) - DuPont Titanium Technologies today announced a price increase for all DuPont Ti-Pure titanium dioxide grades sold in Latin America.

Effective July 15, 2008, or as permitted by contract, prices for DuPont coatings, plastics, specialty, paper, and laminate titanium dioxide grades will increase $150 (USD) per metric ton in Latin America.

"The costs of energy and related goods and services have risen by 10 percent in a single week's time, forcing us into the unprecedented position of imposing a second price increase just weeks after the one we announced in June," said Ian Edwards, global business director - DuPont Titanium Technologies (DTT). "The rate of change in energy costs far exceeds the rate of change in TiO2 prices and the gap between the two continues to expand rapidly in spite of the price actions taken to date."

DuPont Titanium Technologies is the world's largest manufacturer of titanium dioxide, serving customers globally in the coatings, paper and plastics industries. The company operates plants at DeLisle, Miss.; New Johnsonville, Tenn.; Edge Moor, Del.; Altamira, Mexico; and Kuan Yin, Taiwan; all of which use the chloride manufacturing process. The company also operates a plant in Uberaba, Brazil, for finishing titanium dioxide and a mine in Starke, Fla. Technical service centers are located in Uberaba, Brazil; Mexico City, Mexico; Mechelen, Belgium; Kuan Yin, Taiwan; Ulsan, Korea; Shanghai, China; and Wilmington, Del., to serve the Latin American, European, Middle Eastern, Asian and North American markets.
