Ecopump vacuum systems used for energy savings at paper mills

KOTKA, Finland, April 25, 2008 (Press Release) - Ecopump, M-Real and Metsa Tissue have conducted an energy saving program to cut the power consumption of paper machine vacuum systems. The program consists of a process survey, a rebuild - total or partial - or vacuum system, and system optimization. So far it has been realised in Tako, Kyro, Mantta, Kirkniemi and Kangas mills, altogether 8 paper machines. Significant energy and water savings have been realized in all of these machines, by utilizing Ecopump urbo technology. At the same time, improvements in dewatering and process control have been made.

On top of these, Ecopump will supply a complete vacuum system for the new PM8 of American Israeli Paper Mills Hadera. The new testliner machine will be supplied bu Voith. The scope of supply contains 5 units of EP500 Turbos including electric drives, and water separation. The startup will be in 2009.

Ecopump projects are going on for vacuum system rebuilds to Paperteries Clairefontaine (France), Mufindi Paper (Tanzania), International Paper Etienne (France) and Stora Enso Tainionkoski. Savings in energy and water consumption are primary targets in all of these projects.

How do you see the level of regulation as it applies to your pulp and paper company?
  • There's too much - we are caught up in red tape
  • There's too little - stricter laws would force the industry to invest
  • It's about right - but other regions are too lightly regulated

  • It's not a problem
