(Press Release) -
A 15.3% reduction in CO2 emissions directly into the atmosphere, a 28% increase in energy generated from renewable sources and a 3% reduction in energy consumption: these are some of the figures released by Burgo Group, a major producer of graphic papers, in its 2009 Environmental Report "White is Green", published on its Internet site www.burgogroup.com (Media Area). The publication provides data and information that confirm Burgo Group's ongoing commitment to responsible action that can foster development and a sustainable future.
The title of the Report, White is Green, is not only a chromatic paradox, but sums up in three words the company vision and Burgo Group's constant striving to combine paper production and environmental policies in the best possible way: a system that revolves around paper, sustained by the Group's consolidated policy of improving energy efficiency and sustainability, even in economic and social terms, while respecting the ecosystem.
In 2009, in spite of the difficult economic situation and the fall in paper demand, continuous capital spending has brought positive results, particularly in two areas crucial for Burgo Group: monitored management of fibrous raw materials and checks on CO2 emissions.
Burgo Group's commercial range includes a growing number of papers containing recycled pulp and FSC® and PEFCTM certified papers: certification makes it quite clear, even to the end user, that the origin of the fibre used is guaranteed in terms of sustainability and protection of the environment.
The data published in the Environmental Report are a photograph of the significant milestones reached on several fronts: from purchasing and use of resources to the return of waste water, and the optimisation and re-use of process waste to generate energy.
The 2009 Burgo Group Environmental Report White is Green is available from the site http://www.burgogroup.com (Area Media) or, on request, in printed form in Italian, English, French, Spanish and German.
