DS Smith Recycling to provide total waste management solution to DS Smith Paper's Kemsley mill in the UK

LONDON, Jan. 3, 2012 (Press Release) - DS Smith Recycling is working to provide a total waste management solution to its sister company, DS Smith Paper's, Kemsley Mill in Sittingbourne, Kent. Bringing our expertise to handle all waste management from the paper manufacturing process and the wider business will enable DS Smith Paper to be as environmentally sustainable as possible in relation to its processes for waste streams.

Kemsley Mill is one of three mills owned by DS Smith Paper which, combined, produce circa 1.1 million tonnes of paper per year, making the company the largest papermaker in the UK.

The programme, which will run 24/7 as DS Smith Paper operate through the night, includes setting up the segregation and recycling of circa 250k tonnes of materials. The waste streams managed will include paper sludge, hazardous wastes, plastics and any residuals.

The transportation of production waste will be managed through our partner, Countrystyle, to DS Smith Paper's on-site CHP waste-to-energy plant, which provides heat and power to the mill.
