(Press Release) -
The UK Global Compact is a strategic policy initiative for corporate social responsibility, founded and led by the United Nations. It started ten years ago to encourage companies with international operations to corporate responsibility in the areas of human rights, labour, environment and anti- corruption. The UK Global Compact has 8,700 corporate participants from over 130 countries, and the network is growing rapidly. There are 26 members from Finland. The most recently accepted member is the family enterprise Pyroll, which produces packages, acts as a paper merchant and offers sheeting and rewinding services to the paper and paperboard industries. The company is one of the leading converters of paper and paperboard in the Nordic countries. At present, Pyroll has eleven units in Finland and one in Poland. The company employs some 450 people.
The Global Compact is the largest voluntary corporate responsibility initiative in the world. It promotes sustainable development and corporate social responsibility. It is based on ten universally accepted principles, under which members are committed to take concrete steps to develop their operations. These principles include respect for human rights, abolition of child labour and employment discrimination, promotion of environmental responsibility and work against corruption in all its forms. Integrating these principles into cooperation with global, socially responsible clients will become increasingly important for companies serving these clients and pursuing membership in international business networks.
Pyroll sees its participation in the Global Compact as a basis for its own corporate responsibility strategy and believes that this will strengthen relations with its interest groups and open doors to business networks worldwide. The Global Compact requires its members to communicate the programme to their interest groups and to review their progess in their annual report or other public document.
As a member Pyroll is entitled to use the logo "We support the Global Compact" after permission from the Global Compact Office. The logo will be used in Pyroll´s external and internal communication.
