Bangladesh fines Amber Pulp and Paper mill for water pollution [From the web]

DHAKA, Bangladesh, Dec. 20, 2011 (Local News) - The Department of Environment (DoE) has slapped a fine of Tk 3.8 million on Amber Pulp and Paper Mills Ltd (APPML) for polluting Shitalakkhya river by discharging chemical waste.

A team led by Munir Chowdhury, director of DoE's monitoring and enforcement division, conducted a special operation at the mill, located at Ati in Siddirganj upazila of Narayanganj district, and realised the penalty.

APPML is part of the Partex Group, a leading industrial and trading group of the country.
