BOGALUSA, LA, Aug. 15, 2011 (Local News) - A paper mill that may be connected to a widespread fish kill voluntarily shut down its operations Sunday as environmental officials continued an investigation.

Temple-Inland, which owns the paper plant, said it was possible that they exceeded the allowable discharge amount.

"This discharge could have lowered the dissolved oxygen levels in the Pearl River below those required to maintain a healthy fish population," it said in a statement released Sunday evening.
