Inland Empire Paper to install TMP system

MILLWOOD, WA, Feb. 6, 2008 (Press Release) - Inland Empire Paper Company has announced plans to install a new Thermo-Mechanical Pulping (TMP) system. This $ 40+ million dollar project, scheduled for completion in 2009, will significantly reduce Inland Empire Paper Company’s current dependence on natural gas to dry its paper products. Through a heat recovery system that recovers heat generated during the TMP process, the reduction in natural gas usage will eliminate associated air emissions by more than 75% and significantly reduce Inland Empire Paper Company's carbon footprint. "With the significant environmental benefits associated with this project, Inland Empire Paper Company is taking a proactive approach towards the reduction of green house gas emissions," states Wayne Andresen, President and General Manager." "This project reflects our commitment to this goal and represents a significant environmental benefit to the Spokane community."

The new TMP system, to be supplied by Metso Paper will replace pulping systems installed in the 1960’s. This state of the art new installation will insure Inland Empire Paper Company's position well into the future as a high quality low cost producer of newsprint. "The installation of this new state-of-the-art technology will achieve a new milestone in the company’s mission as environmental stewards in our community", states Mr. Andresen. "It will also assure Inland Empire Paper Company's competitive advantage well into the future and allow our continued contribution to the economic well-being of the region."
