(Press Release) -
MarquipWardUnited has announced that Convert Paper in Poland is ready to accept delivery of a recently rebuilt Valmet TDW slitter rewinder, which was originally manufactured by Atlas Converting Equipment under the Valmet name.
The machine was rebuilt and tested by MarquipWardUnited at the Apollo facility in Bedford, U.K. Managing Director of Apollo Sheeters, Steve Brimble, explained, "A large proportion of the original design team from Atlas has stayed with Apollo through several ownership changes. We knew that the Valmet TDW had been in storage for some time and was in excellent condition. When Convert Paper made an enquiry, we knew it was a perfect fit. A viewing visit was arranged and Mr. Witold Kasperkowiak, Production Director for Convert Paper, quickly realised that not only was the machine in excellent condition, but the design, developed with expert input from Valmet (now Metso), was more advanced than most two drumwinders currently on the market."
MarquipWardUnited and Convert Paper agreed on a contract and the machine was delivered to the MarquipWardUnited Apollo plant in Bedford. The team quickly went to work rebuilding and testing the machine in less than three months.
The Valmet TDW has a working width of 2800mm with unwind and rewind diameter capacity of 1800mm and maximum speed of 1500m/min. Automatic threading and rewind cut-off are also included.
Brimble further commented, "We have been considering re-entering the slitter rewinder business for some time. This business shares a client base and excellent technical synergies with our sheeter product line. It is clear that, mechanically, used two-drum winders can be easily rebuilt. The addition of a modern controls and drives package provides a highly efficient machine for a very attractive price level. This project has given us the confidence and encouraged us to seek more similar opportunities."
Kasperkowiak added, "Since the first viewing of the machine, then in storage, I knew it was the correct machine for our needs. The technical specification perfectly corresponded to our needs. It was unusual to find a used machine is such good condition, so we decided to order the machine immediately. Having viewed the machine in operation in the U.K., we are very excited to see the machine perform in our company. Its first ‘concert' will be in January. I will be there, in part because of my responsibility for our production department, but mostly as a fan of its ‘music'!"
