Ilim Group upgrades wastewater treatment facility at its Bratsk mill

ST. PETERSBURG, Russia, Aug. 17, 2009 (Press Release) - In the context of its equipment repair program, the Bratsk Branch of OJSC Ilim Group has started to implement an industrial wastewater treatment facility project. This is one of the main projects included in the Branch R and M program for 2009 to which the company allocated a total of around RUR 25 million. The project goal is to reduce the environmental impact on the Vikhorevka river.

The project involves a repair of the 2nd step biological treatment equalization tank. In the course of repair, the Branch specialists are going to replace the old ferrous-metal pipes with new polyethylene ones, which are lighter and more reliable. At the moment, the equalization tank's bottom is being cleaned and the old pipes are being dismantled. The work under the project is to be completed in October 2009.

It is expected that the equalization tank's repair will result in a considerable reduction of discharge of pollutants to the treatment facilities.
