International Paper begins water recycling system as part of $13M energy efficiency project at Pine Hill, AL mill [From the web]

YELLOW BLUFF, AL, Sept. 26, 2011 (Local News) - When International Paper Co engineers look at the familiar sight of a paper mill belching steam, this is what they see: Waste.

The company paid good money to boil that water, and with the rising cost of energy, the world's largest papermaker has little interest in dumping all that heat into the sky.

So International Paper is installing pumps and pipes to recycle more of the heat. That effort will climax at its Wilcox County mill, which has 380 employees and 40 permanent contractors, during the annual maintenance outage in November.

The water recycling system will be another step in a $13 million effort to make the former Weyerhaeuser Co. mill more efficient. Memphis-based International Paper has already switched to burning more wood waste and modified its boilers to burn more efficiently.
