Voith's TerraSpeed helps increase PM performance at Kübler Niethammer in Germany

HEIDENHEIM, Germany, July 29, 2009 (Press Release) - After installing a center press roll with TerraSpeed coating at Kübler Niethammer in Kriebstein, Germany and the optimization of web threading on a paper machine, the draw was reduced by approximately 1%. Furthermore, the sheet break rate was reduced by half and now in averages only one break per day. "The performance of the paper machine increased by approximately 10%", states Michael Moser, Production/Technical Manager at Kübler Niethammer, where coated graphic papers are produced based on 100% waste paper.

TerraSpeed is the result of Voith's innovation and re-engineering of ceramic coatings, which are specifically adapted to the variety of demands in the papermaking process. The unique ceramic materials of TerraSpeed result in long-lasting cleanliness of the surface.

The extreme hardness of TerraSpeed and its exceptional thickness provide extended run cycles and several regrinds. TerraSpeed can be doctored intensively with SkyTop and SkyTerra without wearing the cover, thus, the roll surface can be kept clean even over long run times. Significant cost savings can be realized with increased doctor blade lifetime and potential elimination of chemical release agents.
