DUNAÚJVÁROS, Hungary,
July 2, 2009
(Press Release) -
Hamburger Hungaria Ltd, member of the Prinzhorn Group has started on 1st July the test production of containerboard papers on its new PM7 in Dunaújváros, 70 km South of Budapest. The first paper has come down on 19th June and the first jumbo reel on 23rd June with 1225 m/minute in 90 g/ m2. The PM has a yearly capacity of 400.000 tons of brown, mainly light weight liner and medium papers (all 100% waste-based), with a working width of 7,8 m. The production speed of PM7 is 1350m/minute. With the new machine, Hamburger Hungaria can offer a full range of brown containerboard from 70 to 175 g/m2.
Hamburger Hungaria in common with its sister mill Hamburger Pitten is introducing a new brand name - the "Austro-" family of products. This brand represents the well-known and established top products of Hamburger mills, now also including the production in Hungary.
The investment (Euro 200 Million) covers one of Europe's most modern paper machines, the approx 300 meter long and 28 meter high mill building, the fully automatic warehouse, the office building and other service infrastructure.
The foundation stone was laid on 9th November 2007, so the investment was realised in a record 19 months, gathering 68 main and subcontractors. During the construction work, 3000 kilometres of different metal components, 750 kms of cables, 80 kms of pipelines, 325 kilometres of electrical wiring and 200 000 tonnes of concrete were used.
The mill is very important for the region not only because the company employs 280 people directly, (in addition some 500 to 600 new jobs are created indirectly), but because PM7, together with the existing other Prinzhorn Group PM in Dunaújváros processes all packaging waste paper collected in Hungary.
The start up of the new PM means a mile stone not only in the life of the youngest member in the Prinzhorn Group, but in the history of its sister company Dunapack Ltd too. With this step the Prinzhorn Group clarifies the structure of its Hungarian companies: Dunapack, until now as a leading player in the region's containerboard market and in the corrugated box market as well, is transferring its paper production to Hamburger Hungaria. Thus, Hamburger Hungaria will oversee all the group's paper production activities in Hungary.
The fact, that now all companies of Prinzhorn Group Packaging Division (corrugating plants in eight countries) use the "Dunapack" name and the new variation of Dunapack's well-known logo proves the international reputation of Dunapack.
