(Press Release) -
International Paper (IP) will incorporate TAPPI membership and activities in their REACH program for developing newly hired engineers. Participants will receive a package of benefits including TAPPI membership, attendance at one or more TAPPI conferences (PEERS or PaperCon), TAPPI courses and books, and volunteer opportunities in TAPPI committees including the Young Professionals committee and/or technical committees in their areas of expertise.
"TAPPI membership provides IP's new engineers access to information resources and networking opportunities which can help advance their industry technical knowledge and career," according to Terri Creech of International Paper's REACH program. "The REACH program's young engineers are an essential component in maintaining IP's leadership in cutting edge manufacturing technology and product innovation. This investment provides these new employees essential tools to aid their development of key skills and knowledge required for success."
International Paper's REACH program offers an integrated core curriculum for new engineers and provides the opportunity while working in a mill environment to interact with other recent college graduates and build a community of colleagues as a resource network. The REACH Core Curriculum focuses on the key skills and knowledge sets needed by a new process or reliability engineer. At the same time it provides the opportunity to learn from industry experts about the skills, processes, equipment, and tools necessary for success. For 2010-2011, there are nearly 100 REACH participants located in IP mills throughout the U.S.
TAPPI's Young Professionals program provides networking opportunities and professional outlets for young professionals to get involved in the industry. The Young Professionals Committee is a group shaped by "soon-to-be" college graduates, recent graduates and young professionals in the industry, as well as accomplished professionals that want to build connections and provide networks for its members. The Young Professional program's purpose is to encourage younger individuals to get involved in and advance the industry by building from fresh, creative and driven minds.
