A presentation by a giant in the paper industry will highlight activities marking the Paper Technology Foundation's 52nd annual meeting, which later this month will draw high-profile industry executives from across the country to Western Michigan University.
A full slate of activities focusing on paper engineering and paper science students is set for Thursday, Oct. 20. A highlight of the meeting will be a keynote presentation by Dhamo Srinivasan, vice president of operations for Marcal Manufacturing, LLC, a portfolio company of Dallas-based Highland Capital. Srinivasan will speak during the event's annual banquet Thursday evening.
Located in Elmwood Park, N.J., Marcal Manufacturing, is the oldest manufacturer of 100 percent recycled paper products in America. Marcal produces well in excess of 120,000 tons of paper towels, bath tissue, facial tissue and napkins every year.
Srinivasan is a manufacturing and operations executive with experience in financial and general management in heavy manufacturing industries. He has a unique ability in driving exceptional top- and bottom-line results in fast-paced environments, including turnarounds utilizing strategic management strengths applied to the consumer packaged goods, forest and building products and packaging industries. Srinivasan has extensive experience in managing a large, diverse workforce in both union and non-union environments. He is responsible for complete operations that include environmental health and safety, quality, service, process improvement, manufacturing units, maintenance, engineering, purchasing, forecasting, shipping, receiving and distribution of products. Additionally, he is a certified Six Sigma black belt.
The Paper Technology Foundation, which has a long tradition of providing scholarships to students, will showcase fall 2011 recipients at a dinner banquet from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Other events during the day include the foundation's committee meetings at 9 a.m., followed by the PTF Board of Trustees meeting from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The foundation's annual meeting runs from 3:30 to 4 p.m. followed by the PTF meet and greet social hour and the annual banquet. Guests will be entertained by the WMU Jazz Quartet during the social hour, which will be followed by the dinner banquet, awards ceremony and keynote remarks. The meetings are held in the ParkView Room at the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences, and the other activities will be held in the Bernhard Center.
Established in 1958, the Paper Technology Foundation supports and enhances the internationally known paper programs offered by the WMU Department of Paper Engineering, Chemical Engineering and Imaging.
