Chemrec USA retains the BDC to pursue grants for commercial biorefinery development

DEERFIELD, IL, April 21, 2009 (Market Wire) - Fuels-from-the-Forest(SM) biorefinery innovator Chemrec USA said today it has retained the Biorefinery Deployment Collaborative (BDC) to assist in the writing of applications to compete for U.S. Department of Energy grants and U.S. Department of Agriculture loan guarantees to assist its further development of commercial scale pulp and paper mill biorefineries.

Chemrec USA, a subsidiary of Sweden's Chemrec AB, develops integrated biorefineries that convert biomass from pulp and paper mills into next-generation green motor fuels. The company provides a proprietary Fuels-from-the-Forest gasification technology and designs the biorefinery that is integrated into existing pulp and paper mills.

In addition, Chemrec works with mill owners as an equity partner to develop the project, including bringing in other equity partners and by winning government grants and securing loan guarantees. With the BDC's assistance, Chemrec will compete for current funding opportunities under the DOE Biomass Program and USDA loan guarantee programs.

Mills that integrate the Chemrec process position themselves as more competitive by adding 30 to 50 percent profitable revenue from the production of renewable motor fuels, for which the market is growing steadily, while replacing or adding recovery capacity facilitating profitable pulp production.
