Myllykoski adopts new energy efficient mechanical pulping technology at groundwood mills

ANJALANKOSKI, Finland, Oct. 4, 2010 (Press Release) - Myllykoski pioneers in the implementation of a new technology for publication paper production. Virgin fibre based grinding process is a major energy consumer in the paper production process. Implementing a new technology brings considerable energy savings to the production of mechanical paper grades and thus decreases carbon footprint compared to the existing main pulping methods.

Myllykoski will invest in the energy efficient mechanical pulping technology, which will decrease considerably the specific energy consumption of the grinding process. By the end of 2010, one fourth of the Myllykoski pressure groundwood capacity will be using this technology.

The target is to have the new technology installed in all Myllykoski's pressurized groundwood mills by 2011 / 2012. At the same time, as part of its efficiency and sustainability programs, Myllykoski continues research in the field of mechanical pulping for finding advanced solutions for producing its publication paper grades.
