(Press Release) -
Krüger WABAG, a subsidiary of Veolia Water Solutions & Technologies, has received an order for the planning and building of a circulating water treatment plant at the Fritz Peters paper factory in Gelsenkirchen. The client is the public-law water management association Emschergenossenschaft/Lippeverband, which after the plant is completed will also operate it on behalf of the Peters company. The Peters corporate group produces at its Gelsenkirchen site about 180,000 metric tons of paper a year, such as plasterboard carton and corrugated cardboard base paper for the packaging industry.
The circulating water treatment plant is designed for a BOD load of 8,900 kg/d (corresponding to about 18,000 kg/d COD) and thus also covers future capacity increases. The planned plant consists mainly of an anaerobic pre-treatment stage according to the BIOBED® EGSB (Expanded Granular Sludge Bed) system and a follow-up aerobic activated sludge plant. After passing through a sand filter, some of the biologically cleaned water is returned to the production cycle. The remaining wastewater is drawn off to the Emschergenossenschaft via the sewage system.
The biogas generated in the anaerobic stage is to be utilised in a combined heat and power unit with a heating output of 1.7 MW. As well as electricity, the installation also generates saturated steam which will be used in the paper factory. The new circulating water treatment plant is to be ready for operation at the end of 2009; the value of the order for Krüger WABAG is about Euro 5.5 million.
Krüger WABAG, like Aquantis, Berkefeld, ELGA and RWO, belongs to Veolia Water Solutions & Technologies, subsidiary of Veolia Water. Veolia Water Solutions & Technologies is a leading design & build company and a specialized provider of technological solutions in water treatment. With over 8,900 employees in 57 countries, the company recorded revenue of Euro 2.5 billion Euros in 2008.
