Indonesian court sentences Canadian citizen to three years in prison for stealing Riau Andalan pulp data [From the web]

PEKANBARU, Indonesia, Jan. 3, 2012 ((From the web)) - Pangkalan Kerinci District Court in Riau has on Friday (December 2nd) sentenced Canadian citizen Richard Constantin Van Lee three years prison.

Panel of judges found Richard guilty of stealing data owned by PT Riau Andalan Pulp and Paper (RAPP), a company controlled by tycoon Sukanto Tanoto. Richard allegedly stole the pulp and paper company's data through transfer of data to external hard drive and flash disk.

The sentence is heavier than the prosecutor's demand of one year prison. Judges said Richard violated Article 32 paragraph 1 of Law No 11 of 2008 about Information and Electronic Transaction (ITE).
