New Brunswick port seeks business from AV Nackawic pulp mills [From the web]

SAINT JOHN, NB, May 18, 2011 (New Brunswick Business Journal) - The chairman of the Saint John Port Authority is "mystified" that pulp producer AV Nackawic has repeatedly declined potential offers from international container lines to ship out of the local port, creating deals that could secure a global market container line for the Port City for the first time in decades.

"We're just down the road from them," Stephen Campbell said in an interview Tuesday. "So the question was, 'Why not Saint John?' And we've never had a satisfactory answer from them."

AV Nackawic, part of a group of companies that produce wood pulp products at two mills, one in Nackawic and one in Atholville, has been shipping its product internationally out of ports in Montreal, Halifax and New Jersey since 2009, when the shipping company that used to call on Saint John pulled out of the North American market. AV Nackawic shipped in break bulk with that company.
