NewPage mill closure threatens RailAmerica service in Nova Scotia [From the web]

HALIFAX, NS, Sept. 19, 2011 (Chronicleherald.ca) - Add RailAmerica to the list of those affected by Friday's indefinite closing of the NewPage Port Hawkesbury paper mill in Port Tupper.

The shutdown of the second of the mill's two paper machines removes about 25 railcars per day out of the Cape Breton and Central Nova Scotia Railway system, raising questions about the future viability of the service operated by Florida-based RailAmerica.

"For our product alone, we had about 23 railcars loading inside our warehouse each day; there were another three of four rail cars each day bringing raw materials," said Patricia Dietz, spokeswoman for the mill.
