Södra Cell receives Green Cargo certificate for climate-responsible transportation

VÄXJÖ, Sweden, Sept. 25, 2009 (Press Release) - The Green Cargo Climate Certificate was awarded to 25 companies at the "Sustainable logistics" seminar held at the World Trade Centre in Stockholm this week.

Present at the seminar was Åsa Torstensson, Swedish Minister of Infrastructure.

"It is with great pleasure I hand over this certificate as proof that your companies have chosen climate-smart transport solutions.Business and industry have a crucial role to play if we are to achieve Sweden's climate goals," said Åsa Torstensson when presenting the Green Cargo Climate Certificates to the corporate leaders.

The recipients included a record number of companies in the retail and food sector. The Green Cargo certificate has been awarded to companies with climate-responsible transportation since 2003. Two companies in the steel industry initially chose to undergo a review of the environmental aspects of their transportation with Green Cargo. Since then the number of companies has increased each year.

The criterion for a company receiving a Green Cargo Climate Certificate is that its transportation with Green Cargo does not cause emissions above 10 grams of carbon dioxide per net tonne kilometre. This ambitious goal involves long distance transportation being made by rail, with local shipment to the delivery destination made by road.
