Tronox sets surcharge for titanium dioxide grades in North America

OKLAHOMA CITY, June 13, 2008 (PRNewswire-FirstCall) - Tronox Incorporated, on behalf of its subsidiary companies, today announced a $0.04 per pound energy surcharge for all TRONOX(r) titanium dioxide grades sold in the North American paper market. The effective date will be July 1, 2008.

This surcharge is the next step in Tronox's efforts to partially offset the unprecedented increases in the company's costs.

Tronox has and will continue to focus on increasing the efficiency and productivity of its facilities; however, those efforts in isolation cannot be expected to offset the significant increases in freight, energy and other input costs that the TiO2 industry has absorbed over the last two years. TiO2 is a critical raw material for customers, and this surcharge in addition to the increases announced in October 2007 and January and June 2008 are required to ensure the industry can profitably reinvest in the business to meet customers' needs in the future.

Headquartered in Oklahoma City, Tronox is the world's third-largest producer and marketer of titanium dioxide pigment, with an annual production capacity of 642,000 tonnes. Titanium dioxide pigment is an inorganic white pigment used in paint, coatings, plastics, paper and many other everyday products. The company's five pigment plants, which are located in the United States, Australia, Germany and the Netherlands, supply high-performance products to approximately 1,100 customers in 100 countries. In addition, Tronox produces electrolytic products, including sodium chlorate, electrolytic manganese dioxide, boron trichloride, elemental boron and lithium manganese oxide.
