Voith concludes framework with Krohne for field instruments, expands automation portfolio

HEIDENHEIM and DUISBURG, Germany, Jan. 23, 2008 (Press Release) - Krohne Messtechnik GmbH & Co. KG, a world leading company of innovative and reliable process measuring technology, and Voith Paper Automation GmbH & Co. KG have concluded a framework supply agreement for field instruments. The products which are produced exclusively for Voith are thus a fixed component of the portfolio of Voith Paper Automation.

The contract covers magnetic-inductive, vortex and mass flow measurements as well as temperature sensors. These field instruments are especially suited for the various tasks in the paper production and ideally meet the high requirements. This was already shown with the project Dagang PM 3, one of the most modern paper machines in the world.

After Voith's supply contract concluded in October with Somas Instrument AB, a manufacturer of high-performance valves, this cooperation is a further important step in the field instrument initiative started by Voith Paper Automation. The goal is to provide customers in the future with a comprehensive product portfolio of field instrumentation and to support them at best in the overall processing. Already today, Voith Paper Automation can cover the major part of all field instruments needed from its own portfolio.

The customers profit from faster project execution due to fewer interfaces and even better, simpler coordination of the individual supply components to one another. In addition, a constantly high quality and reliable delivery of the field instruments are achieved worldwide: "With all our main products, we are either the marker leader ourselves or are at least among the top three," according to Stephan Neuburger, Managing Director of KROHNE.

Based on Voith's know-how regarding the paper manufacturing process, both partners will furthermore jointly develop special product solutions for the pulp and paper industry. Thus, two successful German family-owned businesses are bundling their core competences for the purpose of paper manufacturers: "The two companies work together outstandingly, not just in terms of complementary knowledge, but also in terms of their values. Innovation and reliability characterize both KROHNE as well as Voith," according to Dr. Antti Kaunonen, Executive Vice President of Voith Paper Automation.

The family-owned company KROHNE, founded in 1921, has 2,439 employees worldwide and is represented on all continents. The company with its headquarters in Duisburg, Germany, develops, manufactures and sells various products in the area of measuring technology and is a synonym for innovation and the highest product quality. KROHNE is among the market leaders for process measuring technology in all industries.

Voith Paper Automation, one of the seven Voith Paper divisions, supplies comprehensive automation solutions for the paper industry. Among them are the areas of process control technology, quality control technology, information systems and associated services. The customers profit from the linking of process knowledge and automation competence.
