BRUSSELS , April 25, 2014 (RISI) -
Production of wood pellets in Finland increased by 7%, or 18,000 tonnes, to 270,000 tonnes in 2013, according to the Finnish Forest Research Institute (METLA). This is still 28% below the peak production level in 2008, when 373,000 tonnes of wood pellets were manufactured.
Some 78,000 tonnes of wood pellets were exported from Finland in 2013, which is 28% more than in 2012, when exports dropped by 55%. Almost all of the exports were destined for Sweden and Denmark. The average export price for Finnish wood pellets last year was €133/tonne (US$184/tonne) FOB, down from €138/tonne FOB in 2012, and the total value of the exports stood at €10.4 million last year, METLA said.
