There were 2,304,941 foreclosure filings - default notices, scheduled auctions and bank repossessions - reported on 1,836,634 U.S. properties in 2012, according to RealtyTrac in its Year-End 2012 U.S. The foreclosure filings are down 3% from 2011 and down 36% from the peak of 2.9 million filings in 2010.
The report also shows that 1.39% of U.S. housing units (one in every 72) had at least one foreclosure filing during the year, down from 1.45% of housing units in 2011 and down from 2.23% of housing units in 2010.
