PORTLAND, OR , March 12, 2010 (RISI) - The initial shock has begun to fade, but the long-term effects of the Chilean earthquake on U.S. moulding and composites markets could be significant. Chile is a major source of medium density fiberboard (MDF) and both solid lineal and finger joint mouldings, as well as MDF mouldings. In the two marketing weeks since the earthquake, the markets for all of these products have been subjected to strong price pressures, resulting in some sizable increases.
