Existing-home sales in 2013 increase 9% over the 2012 total

PORTLAND, OR , Jan. 23, 2014 (RISI) - 

Existing-home sales in the U.S. increased 1.0% to a seasonally adjusted annual rate (SAAR) of 4.87 million in December from a downwardly revised 4.82 million in November, according to the National Association of Realtors. Sales in December were 0.6% below the 4.90 million-unit level in December 2012.

In 2013, sales totaled 5.09 million, up 9.1% from 2012. It was the highest number of sales since 2006 when they reached 6.48 million at the close of the housing boom.
