U.S. lumber imports rise in 2012



PORTLAND, OR , Feb. 12, 2013 (RISI) - 

U.S. lumber imports in 2012 totaled 9.74 billion board feet (bbf), up from 9.18 bbf in 2011, according to the Foreign Agricultural Service. Imports from Canada in 2012 were 9.46 bbf, making up 97% of all U.S. imports.

The second greatest volume came from Chile, which shipped 77.60 million board feet (mmbf) into the states in 2012, down from 102.69 mmbf in 2011. New Zealand shipped 70.43 mmbf last year, down from 72.38 mmbf the prior year. Germany shipped 31.96 mmbf, down from 56.33 mmbf.
