Consumer Price Index records largest single-month decline since 1947
PORTLAND, OR , (RISI) - The Consumer Price Index (CPI) fell 1.0% in October, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. This is the largest single-month decline since the Index began in 1947. The large drop was attributed mainly to a decline of 8.6% in the household energy Index and a drop of 14.2% in fuel costs. However, both food and electricity increased in price, partially offsetting the gains in fuel and other energy.
