Boxboard: Consumer packaging again sees flat sales and volumes in June quarter amid outages
OAKLAND, CA, Aug. 9, 2019 (PPI Pulp & Paper Week) -Flattish volumes again characterized boxboard and consumer packaging company financial results in the latest quarter ending in June, and their performances also were marked by maintenance outages and ongoing benefits from a series of price increases since 2018.
Maintenance outages led to some buildup of inventories as the leading two producers WestRock and Graphic Packaging took on projects at several mills.
The three US public producers, including Clearwater Paper, also repeated impacts of ongoing higher input costs in the period, highlighting wood costs, especially in the South, as well as freight.
