Brazilian paper output flat in July due to soft domestic demand, increasing exports

SAO PAULO, Sept. 10, 2019 (PPI Latin America) -Brazilian paper production was virtually flat in July, according to statistics released by the Brazilian Tree Industry Assn (Ibá). Domestic output slightly decreased by 0.6% in comparison to the same month of 2018, totaling 890,000 tonnes.

Amid very soft domestic demand, Brazilian producers were able to sustain production levels by increasing sales to foreign countries. Paper exports increased 42% year-over-year to 199,000 tonnes in July, with printing and writing paper exports up 49% at 94,000 tonnes.
