Brazilian paper output keeps flat in 2018; exports fall by 4.6% to 2 million tonnes

SAO PAULO, March 12, 2019 (PPI Latin America) -The annual statistics released by the Brazilian Tree Industry Assn (Ibá) show that paper output in the country was almost flat in 2018 compared to the year before, showing a 0.2% decrease to 10.45 million tonnes. Exports, however, dropped 4.6% during the year, impacted mostly by lower volumes in packaging and printing/writing grades.

Packaging paper exports declined 16.5% to 556,000 tonnes year-over-year, while printing/writing paper exports dropped 2.3% to 938,000 tonnes and boxboard fell 0.5% to 194,000 tonnes.
