Chinese ministry reaffirms plan to forbid solid waste imports from 2020
BEIJING, April 5, 2019 (PPI Asia) -China will not relax its regulations on solid waste imports and still aims to cut them to zero by the end of 2020, a senior environment ministry official said last week.
The country’s tight waste import control policy is like “an arrow that has left the bow” and cannot be recalled, said Qiu Qiwen, the director of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment’s solid waste division.
He made the comment in response to rumors that China may ease up on foreign waste imports.
