Eka Tjipta Widjaja, founder of global P&P giant APP, passes away
COLOGNE, Germany, Feb. 1, 2019 (PPI Asia) -Eka Tjipta Widjaja, the founder of Asia Pulp & Paper (APP) and its mother brand Sinar Mas, passed away last weekend at the age of 98.
Widjaja emigrated from Fujian, China to Indonesia in 1930.
He began his business empire as a mobile vendor, and saw it grow into an economic powerhouse.
The genesis of APP itself came in 1972, when Widjaja established Tjiwi Kimia in Surabaya, Indonesia.
Now, APP runs at least 25 mills across China and Indonesia with a cumulative paper product capacity of around 23 million tonnes/yr.
