Europe heads the world again in paper recycling as rate nears 2020 target
BRUSSELS, Nov. 8, 2018 (PPI Europe) -Europe is still the world leader in paper recycling with North America in second place, according to the European Paper Recycling Council’s monitoring report for 2017.
The recycling rate (covering the EU-28, Norway and Switzerland) climbed from 72.0% in 2016 to 72.3% last year. It is nearing the target for 2020 of 74% set out in the European Declaration on Paper Recycling.
Paper consumption increased by 0.5% to 82.5 million tonnes last year, while collection of paper for recycling rose by 0.8% from 2016 to 59.6 million tonnes. Of this total, 9.5 million tonnes (15.9%) was ...
