Fire hits Smurfit Kappa’s Hoya mill in Germany, recycled cartonboard production briefly down

BRUSSELS, June 17, 2019 (Fastmarkets RISI) -A significant fire broke out in the paper for recycling (PfR) storage area on the premises of Smurfit Kappa’s Hoya mill in Germany in the afternoon of June 14. The exact cause of the fire is still unclear.

According to the firefighters’ report, five persons suffered smoke inhalation, some 300 tonnes of loose PfR went up to the flames and the damage was estimated at approximately Euro 20,000-30,000 ($22,000-34,000).

Production had to be suspended on the mill's white-lined chipboard PM 4 as power supply was switched off, the company told Fastmarkets RISI. Production resumed at 3 ...
