Forest areas hit by fires in Chile this season drop 96%

SAO PAULO, Feb. 6, 2018 (PPI Latin America) -The latest report published by the Chilean forest corporation (Conaf) shows that 20,571 ha of forest areas in the country were hit by fires during this Summer season, a 96% decrease compared to a year ago. Even though losses continue to be reported, this year's figures show an extreme contrast with the record number of fires registered last year, when more than 500,000 ha of forest areas were burned.
