Japanese paper and board mills manage to push through substantial hikes
COLOGNE, Germany, March 15, 2019 (PPI Asia) -Large-scale price hikes that Japanese paper and board producers have been pushing since the third quarter of 2018 have now largely gone through. Contacts report that levels started shifting up late last year.
Mechanical printing paper prices rose to ¥133-138 per kg ($1,190-1,240/tonne) from ¥110-115 per kg. Bitokoshi also made a big jump, climbing ¥22-24 to ¥119-136 per kg.
Also in terms of wood-containing paper, the last few months have seen uncharacteristic public price hike announcements for newsprint.
