NBSK stocks $200/tonne dearer than imports as resale pulp breaks records
SINGAPORE, Sept. 8, 2017 (PPI Asia) -Over the past two weeks, resale prices for northern bleached softwood kraft (NBSK) pulp have seen a whopping increase of RMB 1,050/tonne ($161/tonne) in the Chinese market.
The jump has taken levels for Chinese traders’ stocks of the benchmark grade sold to domestic buyers to RMB 7,200-7,300/tonne.
The level is equivalent to $931-944/tonne after deducting 17% VAT and logistics costs, and is much higher than the grade’s imports, at $690-700/tonne.
“The hefty price is real, but volume is very small,” said a major trader.
