Newsprint: Drop in North American newsprint demand eases for fifth straight month
OAKLAND, CA, Jan. 29, 2016 (PPI Pulp & Paper Week) -The rate of decline in North American newsprint demand eased for a fifth straight month in December, with a 1.5% reduction from December 2014 that put its fourth quarter average drop below 4%, according to Pulp and Paper Products Council statistics.
Total US demand actually grew 0.2% in December, but this gain was offset by a 9.3% drop in the smaller Canadian market. For North America as a whole, the total demand drop in 2015 was marginally into double-digits at 10.1%.
