Prices for RCP imports spike in China, while domestic RCP levels plunge

SINGAPORE, Oct. 20, 2017 (PPI Asia) -The Chinese recovered paper (RCP) market has seen volatility pick up over the past three weeks, with prices for benchmark US old corrugated containers (OCC) up $30/tonne this week.

The jump has brought the grade’s levels to $190-200/tonne in China, where the prices had fallen $10-20/tonne from the $170-190/tonne registered in the week before the eight-day National Day holiday (starting October 1) to clock in at $160-170/tonne last week.

It was also reflected immediately on other Asian markets, in which US OCC is being priced at $200/tonne in suppliers’ initial offers to customers.
