Pulp: Suzano plans large BEK cutback in 2H; producer stocks up

OAKLAND, CA, Aug. 16, 2019 (PPI Pulp & Paper Week) -Weak demand, high pulp inventories, and low prices forced the world's largest bleached eucalyptus kraft (BEK) producer Suzano to plan to cut production by 750,000 tonnes during the second half of this year in an attempt to stop prices from declining further.

That 750,000 tonnes equals about 13.6% of Suzano's half-year pulp capacity, according to a Fastmarkets RISI estimate. The company already cut 550,000 tonnes of pulp production in the first half of this year.
