RANDOM LENGTHS: 2Q financial results tumbled amid weak sales, rising costs

EUGENE, OR, Aug. 16, 2019 (Through a Knothole) -North American wood products companies struggled to improve financial results during the second quarter amid falling lumber and panel prices and diminished sales. Profit margins were slim to down for companies in Canada and up by single digits for most U.S. counterparts.

After a brief uptick in prices during the first quarter, modest gains faded in the second until late June when a measured run emerged. A number of companies linked the tumble in prices to weak results during the quarter.
