RANDOM LENGTHS: B.C. leads decline in 1Q lumber production
EUGENE, OR, June 14, 2019 (Through a Knothole) -North American lumber production in the first quarter fell 3.7% to 15.017 billion board feet compared to the same period of 2018, according to preliminary figures from industry associations and Statistics Canada.
A drop in Canadian output stood out, falling 8.6% to 6.383 bbf. The biggest drop was in British Columbia, where output fell 14.7% to 2.684 bbf. Production in Eastern Canada decreased 3.6% to 3.699 bbf.
Gains in U.S. production were minimal, up 0.4% through the quarter to 8.634 bbf. Southern Pine output rose 3.5% to 4.694 bbf. In the West, ...
