RANDOM LENGTHS: Green Fir prices robust following sawmill closures

EUGENE, OR, Aug. 16, 2019 (Through a Knothole) -Framing lumber prices have mostly bumped along in a narrow range so far in 2019. Green Douglas Fir has been an outlier, with prices showing steady upward growth since the spring.

Buyers and sellers cite two key reasons that green Fir has outperformed the broader framing lumber market. The closures of two Oregon sawmills earlier this year has been the strongest catalyst. Swanson Group announced its sawmill in Glendale was closing in March, and Georgia-Pacific shut down its Coos Bay sawmill in April.
