RANDOM LENGTHS INTERNATIONAL: Chinese market fueled record Australian log exports

EUGENE, OR, June 12, 2019 (Random Lengths International) -Australia’s softwood log exports soared to record volumes in 2017 while the country’s foreign trade in softwood lumber fluctuated mildly.

Booming demand from China fueled the surge in log exports as Australia joined a long list of suppliers worldwide battling for a share of that massive market. Roundwood exports to China reached a record 4.43 million cubic meters in 2017, up 17% from the previous record set in 2016, according to an annual report released in May by the Australian Bureau of Agriculture and Resource Economics and Sciences (ABARES).
