RANDOM LENGTHS INTERNATIONAL: Soaring particleboard imports buck downward trends

EUGENE, OR, July 16, 2019 (Random Lengths International) -U.S. particleboard imports from offshore suppliers are soaring so far this year. The strong gains through May run counter to the fade evident in shipments of softwood lumber, structural panels, and most other wood products through early 2019.

Particleboard imports from overseas climbed to 254,962 cubic meters through May, more than double the year-ago five-month volume and on pace to shatter the record set in 2018.

Meanwhile, U.S. softwood lumber imports from offshore slipped 1% through April before a May surge propelled year-to-date volumes up 9%. Imports increased for six consecutive years through 2018. ...
