RANDOM LENGTHS: Shake and shingle mills face ongoing struggle

EUGENE, OR, Aug. 23, 2019 (Through a Knothole) -Cedar shakes and shingles traders are still waiting for the market to pick up in 2019. Many have been looking for increased signs of interest for nearly 18 months.

When the U.S. Department of Commerce enacted duties on Canadian shakes and shingles shipped into the U.S. in March 2018, the 20.23% added to prices made the offerings uncompetitive, both in comparison to U.S. offerings as well as alternative materials.

Little has changed since then. Initial optimism that the duties would be removed, since shakes and shingles have not been part of previous duty cases, ...
