RANDOM LENGTHS: U.S., Canada agree to lift Section 232 tariffs
EUGENE, OR, May 17, 2019 (Random Lengths) -The United States and Canada announced an agreement Friday to eliminate tariffs, clearing the way for unfettered trading of thousands of products including U.S.-produced plywood that had been caught up in a trade dispute over steel and aluminum.
U.S. officials agreed to remove tariffs on steel and aluminum imported from Canada and Mexico within 48 hours. Those tariffs had been imposed under Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962. In return, Canada agreed to eliminate tariffs imposed in retaliation.
